Effective April 6th, 2026, Dr. Andrew Lai has moved his medical practice to the following address:

No further action is required from current patients of Dr. Lai's, as all medical records will be automatically transferred up to his new office.

Additionally, Dr. Lai's working hours will change effective April 6th, 2026 as follows:

Monday: 9:00 to 17:00

Tuesday: 10:00 to 20:00

Wednesday: 9:00 to 17:00

Thursday: 10:00 to 17:00

Friday and Saturday: 9:00 to 12:00 (intermittently selected)

Dr. Andrew Lai is a highly skilled and experienced family physician dedicated to providing the best possible care to all his patients. With a focus on patient care and well-being, Dr. Lai offers a range of medical services and treatments tailored to meet the unique needs of his patients. He is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest advances in medicine in order to provide his patients with the highest quality care possible.

Raised in Newmarket, Dr. Lai is proud to serve the community where he grew up. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and pets, cooking, travelling, following his favourite sports teams, and trivia (previous Jeopardy! contestant).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Dr. Lai accepting new patients?

A: At this moment, Dr. Lai's waitlist to become a patient is full, and he is no longer accepting new patients.

Q: What languages does Dr. Lai speak?

A: Dr. Lai speaks English only. No translation services are available with staff present; if translation is necessary, please ensure you come with a family member that can help with translation.

Q: I have an urgent issue that needs to be seen by Dr. Lai. What can I do?

A: Please contact our office directly by phone (905-895-9777) to see what availabilities there are for a same-day appointment in order to be seen. If the issue is a medical emergency, please dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Q: I need to have my prescribed medication renewed. How do I do this?

A: If you are on your last refill, please have your pharmacy fax/message our office with your refill request. Dr. Lai will review the request and either fill the prescription OR ask for an appointment with you to discuss the request further. Requests are reviewed and addressed within 1-2 business days. If a more urgent refill is required, our office charges $20 for an expedited review and turnaround of the pharmacy's request.

Q: I am a patient of Dr. Lai's, however, I would prefer to have a female doctor complete my Pap smear (cervical cancer screening) or conduct a female sensitive examination. What can be done for this?

A: Please contact the staff to schedule with either Dr. Ma or Dr. Talebian, who can complete those examinations for you (both are female physicians that work alongside Dr. Lai). Please note that Drs. Ma and Talebian complete this as a courtesy to Dr. Lai's patients; any other concerns or examinations will need to be booked with Dr. Lai.

Q: Why is there a fee charged for form completion/doctor's letters/insurance notes?

A: The completion of forms, letters and notes by a physician is a non-OHIP covered service. Dr. Lai charges the fees for the completion of these services at rates as suggested by the OMA (Ontario Medical Association). A receipt of payment is available upon request for patients for personal tax purposes if desired.

Q: What payment options are available for fees charged by the office?

A: Cash, cheque, and credit/debit card payment in the office are the only accepted payment methods.
